saw this on TCM the other night, a fun movie to watch.

This movie is nuts. It's sadly kind of forgotten, even though it's actually a very important (and influential) moment in the history of the science fiction film.

... and HG Wells essentially supports a kind of fascism governed by science/rationalism, and there's more than a few parallels to the supposed 'good guys' and the encroaching Nazi menace of the time it was made.

so who where the good and the bad at the space gun segment?

The side led by Raymond Massey in his various incarnations is the one Wells thinks of as right.
