Stranger Things

Are you watching this Netflix show about a series of disappearances somehow linked to a mostly unseen parallel dimension creature, a secret research lab, and a little girl with psychic powers?
If not, you're missing out.
I'm three episodes in and loving it.
People have been describing it as "Super 8...except good." And Stephen King said something to the effect of "It's like a best of my work...and I mean that as a compliment."

It might not grab you aside from the nostalgic 80s feel and synth score right away, but after the third episode, I now feel hooked.

I saw it on Netflix. One of those "sounds interesting Ill get to it eventually" things. And for the record...I actually liked Super 8.

I finished it. Like I said before, I was pretty hooked by the end of three. By the end of six I knew I was probably going to like it.

The finale though, is SPECTACULAR. It's tense, emotional, fun, and manages to both wrap things up and leave room to explore and expand if they get renewed for additional seasons. Awesome stuff. I loved it.

Btw, I also enjoyed Super 8, but it falls so flat on its face in the third act, if it were human, it'd have shattered its nose. The nostalgic, sappy, heartfelt ending is completely unearned and runs counter to the rest of the film's action. It's an ATROCIOUS ending. Stranger Things on the other hand, COMPLETELY sticks its landing. Great show.

I binge-watched the entire thing last night. :P It's really, really good. It's so well done it basically feels just like an extended classic 80's Amblin/Spielberg meets John Carpenter and Stephen King movie rather than a TV show, albeit one of those ones you 'just never saw when you were young, ans so only just got round to watching now', and I love it for that. The 80's atmosphere is so well done, it conjured up so many great memories of the kinds of movies I used to watch back then.

I too was wondering how well they would end everything, but it turned out to be very satisfying, while still leaving one or two intriguing things dangling for a (hopeful) second season. The trailers looked like exactly the sort of thing I would enjoy before it came out, then once it did I heard nothing but good things, and yep, there's a reason for that. Really great stuff.

The only downside now is waiting a minimum of another year to see what happens next (if Netflix gives it a renewal of course, which at this point they'd be crazy not to)! :(

Started this the other day and I'm half way done with the show. It's amazing probably going to finish it off tomorrow night or Wednesday night.

I finished it....at 4AM on a work night. That is how good it is, or how crazy I am. I started a few days ago and tonight I just couldn't stop myself from watching it until the end.

If you don't like this, something is wrong with you.

Watched the first two episodes.

I know there's a reluctance to wallowing in nostalgia, but man... sometimes you can go home again!

We watched this recently and yeah, all the good things being said about it are true. It was great from start to finish. REALLY hope there's a season two (and more if they can keep it compelling).

Regarding another season I am a little frustrated.

Between the trailer and poster art I was skipping this because it felt so try-hard to evoke Spielberg and King... But the constant praise I kept hearing made me give it a chance. I thought the first three episodes were OK, but I got hooked on the 4th. Mixed feelings on the finale depending on whether they take it for another season or not, but overall great execution, and characterization keeps this from the pitfalls I was expecting.

Loved the title card and the score throughout.

If not for the in the finale, I'd be totally good with a loosely connected sequel that sort of just crosses over with this first season to tie up a loose end here or there . But that one thing really makes me want to at LEAST see that character as a major player again, because it by FAR leaves the most unanswered questions that I don't think fan theories and "It's fine to be a little vague" responses can answer well enough.

The fact that they already have episode titles shows just how planned the second season is already! That's a great sign; a slapdash follow up can be the worst thing, but I guess this has been in the works (at least tentatively) since before the first season was completed.

It seems that in a summer where the blockbuster offerings failed to capture the public's imaginations Stranger Things filled that void. People are still talking about it, obsessing over it, rewatching it. If half of this energy is sustained the the anticipation for the next season is gonna be massive. Hopefully the hype doesn't work against it unfairly.

Who summoned the Orgdru Jahad? We've got Lovecraft (giant monsters?) and Close Encounters and Ghostbusters incoming.

... and we have to wait all the way 'till Halloween?

Most people are going on about Millie's hair, but I'd like to point out Finn's transformation into Cillian Murphy.
