Wow, from out of nowhere(at least to me)! I like the premise hinted at, another unique view of a Kaiju attack, or occupation, it would seem. Can't wait! :D :D :D

Part of me wonders if it will have anything to do with a giant monster this go around. I know that's the obvious thing to expect, but I can also see them going a completely different direction.

The fact that the "Cloverfield" part of the title came up before the rest did suggests a lot to me. Color me intrigued.

Huh. What a genuine surprise. I'm not sure it's gonna be a kaiju movie though... I'm going strictly off the preview and the poster, but it seems much more like something reminiscent of THE THING. The tag line on the poster in particular seems to indicate this may be a very different film from the first. It will be interesting to see what the monster really is and how this movie actually relates to the first one.

ok... I have only seen the original film once, and that was in the theater when it first came out, 8 years ago. I have wanted to see it again, perhaps even purchase on Blu-Ray (just waiting for a decent price) but....

upon asking why the first film was named "Cloverfield" I assumed it was a made up borough of NYC (like Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, Long Island etc...) -I know in real life it refers to the freeway Exit JJ takes in Santa Monica , but why would you name a film something so random without an in-film reference?

Now this film "10 Cloverfield lane" seems to refer to an address. I figured this would be somewhere in NYC. Looks like Goodman is a survivalist of some sort trying to keep himself and 2 others safe from the Monster, when he takes things a little too far. But the teaser poster makes things appear to be a bunker in a home in a rural location. So... Has the Clover Monster (or "Monsters"?) perhaps multiplied and caused destruction perhaps disease on a world wide scale?

That is my guess, but I guess we'll find out for sure in a couple months. But yeah, pretty sure the monster wont be in it until perhaps the very end, if at all (film only has a 5M budget, compared to the originals 25M). It will play mostly on the suspense of what you don't see.

They keep going back and forth on whether or not there will be a "Pacific Rim" sequel, but we finally get a "Cloverfield" follow-up?

Did anyone catch that VHS the guy was looking it? It almost read something like "Cannibal Airlines". I don't know if they are giving us some sort of clue with that, or just some silly prop.

Neat. I guess.

"In theaters and IMAX." Seems a little overkill to put this movie in IMax, especially since it seems big monster free.

*edit* If this movie has nothing to do with Clovefield (2008) I'm going to throw my feces at the screen. Talk about false advertising. I base this comment on other comments thinking they might be using "Cloverfield" like "The Twighlight Zone" and making different stories.

My guess is that a lot of people who are hoping this is a legitimate SEQUEL to Cloverfield are going to be disappointed. I might see it in theaters just for the novelty of going to see a movie where I have NO idea what to expect, but my expectations for a monster movie are almost nonexistent

I keep hearing that JJ said this movie is more of a blood brother than a sequel to Cloverfield. Kind of suggesting that a Cloverfield series will just be an anthology of sci-fi movies with no real relation to one another, like how the Halloween series was supposed to go with Halloween 3 Season of the Witch and onwards but producers double backed and brought Michael Meyers back.

And count me, currently, as those disappointed if that's true. After some time I'll probably be able to appreciate as it's own thing (and hopefully I can be prepared for the lack of Clover or any other new kaiju) before the movie comes out. Because I want more giant monsters destroying cities.

This feels like tenuous use of brand recognition, and nothing more. If a monster from the original appears in this one, I think it's more likely to be the parasites. And if that's the case, count me disinterested. That part of Cloverfield always struck me as having a lack of confidence in the film's ability the maintain tension with just the giant monster, like the latter half of GINO.

It seems like this was originally called "The Cellar/Valencia" and was shelved. Then they reshot scenes to make it tie in with Cloverfield.

I'm out.

Interesting to see so many writing this off due to the fact it might not have a monster in it. I'm just happy it's not another reboot/remake or superhero movie. Goodman being in it is an added bonus. Must see for me.

JJ Abrams can suck it. He is a talentless hack of a director.

he's producing, just like he produced the first Cloverfield.

I'm sensing the ties to the original film will be tenuous at best. I didn't love Cloverfield, but I'll still be disappointed if this has little to do with it. I liked the trailer, though. I'll wait for the reviews to hit in March.
