I don't know about the X-Men films. Undoubtedly, I was as excited as anyone else for the first live action X-Men film but after seeing it for the first time it seemed as if Singer's vision was somewhat off the mark. Unlike the Marvel Cinematic Universe approach which wholeheartedly embraces the comic book world, Singer wants to be "realistic" and only chooses select 'non-silly' elements to build the X-Men movie-verse.

For example:
-Storm could not fly until after the big negative fan response
-Iceman did not transform his body into ice
-Mystique basically runs around naked because 'why would a shape-shifter need clothes?' Never mind the fact that when Mystique shape shifts her new appearance includes clothes
-Aliens are simply too silly to exist in Bryan Singer's "realistic" X-Men dojo; The Phoenix is simply a destructive split personality of Jean Grey's and not an alien entity (I think Singer had something in there about a second stage mutant evolution as well).

I'm not trying to say that Singer shouldn't be allowed a shot on a new Star Trek series, just that I've ample reason to be wary of his potential vision for a new show. Of course, even if Bryan Singer is tapped for the new show I'm hoping for the best, just not doing so blindly.

None of what you listed ever really bothered me. I've always found Singer's films to be an excellent segue between the comic book world and live action film. I had little to know knowledge of X-Men before the movies and found the first two to be excellent movies. Without them it's unlikely we'd have movies like the Marvel Cinematic Universe which embraces what you enjoy about them so much.

And the Phoenix schtick was not Singer's doing. That was Ratner's show.

The Singer X-Men movies are some of the best comic book films in my book and I prefer them to a great many of the Marvel Studios stuff. Add to that list the other positives on his resume and I don't see a reason not to be excited about the prospect of him running a Trek series.

I wouldn't mind a new Star Trek series, as long as it's true to the spirit of Star Trek.

I saw that the new Star Trek film had a title, and before I clicked it...I said "What is it? Star Trek Beyond?"


...and I was right.

It is simple and cliche but at the same time I like it. "To boldly go where no man has gone before" sounds like a long winded way of saying Beyond.
