It's perplexingly strange.
Why not do one of the great musicals and use nothing but professional stage actors and singers who can almost certainly pull off a live performance? Music Man! My Fair Lady! South Pacific!
This could be a chance to bring a little culture into the mainstream, but instead it seems NBC is making freak shows.
