Reptisaurus is Public Domain?
As many of you probably already know, after Reptilicus was released a comic book based on the movie was published by Charlton Comics (makers of the Gorgo and Konga comics). After Issue #2, though, they retooled the monsters into an original monster they named "Reptisaurus" and continued the story for another six issues before the series was cancelled. When Charlton Comics folded, many of their original characters fell into the Public Domain.
While looking up Public Domain characters (just curious), I stumbled upon a few vague references to Reptisaurus also being in the Public Domain. After searching around, I discovered three things:
1. The Reptisaurus the Terrible comic series has been reprinted in B&W as .
2. In a roundabout way, I guess we could call this a really REALLY bad remake of Reptilicus?
3. According to the , the film was "Based on the Public Domain comic book REPTISAURUS."
Does anyone know any more about this? Is Reptisaurus really in the Public Domain? Because if so, then we'd better get to work on Reptisaurus vs. The Giant Gila Monster!
