I am hoping for something more like The Mummy (1998)..but gods, monsters and madness sounds like a recipe for a fun time at least.

I want to get excited, since Egypt is my favorite pantheon of gods, but every time we have something on the material, it ends up sucking.

This doesn't look like a Alex Proyas movie, and I'm not sure if that's good or bad. Since he usually has a very dark color palate to his films. And I have yet to not enjoy the movies of his I have seen. Yeah, that includes I, Robot and Knowing. So if nothing else it's cool Egyptian themed action/adventure flick. And the last time we had one of those that was good was the first two Mummy movies.
Not something that I NEED to see at the theater, but if I'm given free tickets or something sure. But yeah, definitely a Netflix watch for sure.

I must watch this. I know, they white washed everything again, but it deals with Egyptian gods. It looks lie the Clash of the Titans version of Egypt. I need to see it.

This is an Alex Proyas film, huh? I thought Dark City was really something special back in the day, and I've always wanted to see him to top it.
Sadly, that hasn't really been close to happening.

I'm a big Alex Proyas fan. The Crow and Dark City are two of my favorite movies, and I feel I, Robot and Knowing are quite underrated. I'm beginning to feel the same about Gods of Egypt with some of the terrible reviews I've seen. It's not a perfect movie, but it's nowhere as bad as some are making it out to be. It's a very weird movie with some bizarre imagery (not all of it successful, see below), but it's a very earnest story with charming, quirky characters (a hallmark of Proyas' work) that I think will appeal to people like us that love Ray Harryhausen. While a bit conventional, the story is wrapped up in a satisfying way as opposed to setting up a sequel of any kind.
If the movie has a downfall it's the overblown visuals. Nothing in this movie looks simple. I wish they had employed more practical work in places, especially in the man-sized creatures and set pieces.
