Beyond Gilligan, he was an accomplished actor with many other TV and movie roles, including some sci-fi films from the '50's like This Island Earth, Attack of the Crab Monsters and It Came from Outer Space. Coincidentally, I had just ordered It Came from Outer Space yesterday morning and then heard of his passing later in the day.

A favorite performance was his role in Twilight Zone "Back There" where he goes back in time to try to prevent Lincoln's assassination.

I always found it amsuing that in "Crab Monsters" among the survivors, his character made mention that he was the only non scientist.

Very sad news.

I got to see him and get his autograph at the MST3K ConventioCon 2. Someone asked Rex Reason what it was like to be in a giant bong in "This Island Earth", and the Prof was miming to him what a bong is. "Speaking from experience, professor?" quipped Kevin Murphy.
