Is there a thread on here to discuss the Universal Monsters series of movies?

THere is now.

What are your top 3 favorites? Mine are The Wolfman, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and The Mummy.

Creature. Wolfman. Frankenstein.

Kinda easy for me to do a top 3. Top 5 might get real interesting...

I think they're available individually now if you want to pick & choose. I agree the technicolor Phantom isn't that great, but for a set of 8 movies only having one film I didn't care much about, it was worth buying the whole thing. Of course, I bought it over a year ago, and imported the UK release for half of what the ridiculously overpriced US set was going for. But I think I've seen the US set for much more normal prices more recently, though I haven't paid close attention since I already have it.

Love the Universal Monsters. I spent Halloween watching the Blu-Ray set, and I recently got the channel ME TV, where I can watch Svengoolie show (mostly) Universal pictures, including real obscure ones (House of Frankenstein was slightly better than I remembered, mostly because of Cheney Jr. and Karloff).

Favorites? The monster films helmed by James Whale: Frankenstein, Bride, and Invisible Man... I, I haven't seen Old Dark House yet (I know, I know, I'll get on it). I love all the main ones at least: Dracula, Mummy, Wolf Man, Creature, as well as Son of Frankenstein and Abbot and Costello Meet Frankenstein.

If it isn't obvious already, my favorite monster is the Frankenstein Monster as portrayed by Karloff. He's my favorite monster after Godzilla and Kong.

My top 3? The Wolf Man, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Frankenstein. I sometimes feel like putting Creature above Wolf Man, but Lon Chaney Jr's performance keeps me from doing it. I have to say though that I also love the first Invisible Man. He may not be nearly as popular as Universal's Big 4, but Claude Rains performance is great.

All sorts of Dracula and Frankenstein movies over the years. Even Wolf Man. But still no Creature from the Black Lagoon remake. :(

If you order the Blu-ray box set from Amazon.uk it's about (or a little less than) $40 shipped, and they're all-region. I dunno why it's so much cheaper than it is if you order it from regular amazon.com, but I'm not complaining.

While I'm dreaming: I think Uni could take care of the rest of their important movies in two Blu-Ray sets:

- A Universal Monsters sequels set could cover all the rest of the monster sequels if they do two movies per disc (seeing as they're generally shorter and will lack the feature length extras that were produced for the original films I don't see that as a problem)

-A set called Universal Horror or Universal Thrillers could get all the great films they did not a part of their 'Monsters' series: Black Cat, The Raven, Old Dark House, ect.

... but maybe this is a job for Shout Factory.

Funko is starting an action figure line that will replicate the look of the more simplistic toys of yesteryear (the old Star Wars toys from the '70s in particular). The Universal Monsters are one of the many franchises they'll tackle.

I'm down for all of the Monsters - and if they do a second line with Ygor, the Son of Frankenstein version of Frank, and Dr. Pretorius I won't complain.

^It should have been an empty box.

Same with the Universal Monsters Invisible Man!
