47 RONIN (Christmas Day 2013)
Hollywood isn't done giving us their take on Japanese pop-culture yet, PACIFIC RIM was wave one and this Friday we get THE WOLVERINE but then come Christmas we have Universal Studio's $200-Million adaptation of the celebrated legend of the 47 RONIN.
Starring Keanu Reeves (The Matrix), Hiroyuki Sanada (The Twilight Samurai), Ko Shibasaki (Battle Royale), Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer), Rinko Kikuchi (Pacific Rim) and Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa (Mortal Kombat) with a screenplay by Chris Morgan (The Fast & The Furious) and Hossein Amini (Drive) and directed by Ridley Scott protegee Carl Rinsch, 47 RONIN is being billed by Universal as a Japanese Lord of the Rings which it will be going head-to-head with this holiday season.
After PACIFIC RIM this is the film I'm most psyched to see this year!

Just as PACIFIC RIM was a Hollywood homage to Kaiju Eiga, this looks like a great homage to supernatural cambara cinema: The Magic Serpent (66), Watari the Boy Ninja (66), Red Shadow (67), Legend of the Eight Samurai (83), Yamato Takeru (94), Shinobi: Heart Under Blade (05), etc...
