I can't say how much Ray's work meant to me and how big of a hero he is to me.

Since he was so old I've been dreading hearing this news for years.

I'm beyond crushed.

In some way, I owe nearly everything I love to this one man. As has been said, his influence on and importance to the films and filmmakers of this world is completely immeasurably. Thanks for the magic, Ray.

He really took the mantle over from Wills O’Brien. I remember him saying that when we saw a private screening of Jason and the Argonauts in 2003. He was interviewed by Phil Tippet. It was pretty cool and held at the Dryden Theatre here in Rochester. A couple of forum members here on Monster Zero went. We saw the actual stop motion puppets of the skeletons. He talked on how he animated all of them. It was unreal the work he did.

There is no other "celebrity" death that will affect me like this. Yes, he was in his 90s and we all knew it was coming sooner than later. But it still sucks.

As some may know, IRL I'm an animator and have been doing it full time for over 20 years and have been dabbling since the mid-70s. Without Ray, his imagination and through it his movies, I don't know if I would have been inspired enough to take this path. I know I'm not alone in that.

At least he was able to lead a truly amazing life and in his final years get a ton of admiration from the fan and professional communities that he deserved.

The Legend now sleeps among the Titans.

An icon of my childhood. Weekend kids matinees, weekend and afternoon movies on the tv, they were always best when something Ray Harryhausen had a hand in were showing. Jason and the Argonauts, and all three Sinbad films were first watched by a pre-teen me on the big screen. The Beast from 20'000 Fathoms and Earth vs. The Flying Saucers were regular parts of local tv movie rotations. Valley of the Gwangi was also seen from time to time on tv.

He will be missed, RIP Master of the Fantastic. :(

 I just sent a very similiar message to someone here as a PM. I'm so glad I got to meet him at SDCC back in 2001 when X-Plus released the vinyl figures based on his creations. 7th Voyage is going to feel extra special, and at the same time, a little more difficult to get through tonight.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.
