A development deal unveiled today at MIPTV will see Allan Quatermain, the swash-buckling character from the 1880s who inspired Indiana Jones become the subject of a new 10-part, $30 million series.

The project is a joint venture between Sonar Entertainment and Ecosse Films (Camelot, Monarch of the Glen). Writers Richard Kurti and Bez Doyle (Going Postal) are already signed up.

Well, with looking for early 30s aged actors to play Quatermain at least we won't get yet another adaptation of King Solomon's Mines.

While some adaptations of KSM have been more enjoyable than others, attempts in adapting the story seem to be getting worse in recent years rather than better. I had hoped for a little while after the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen movie that just maybe we'd get Sean Connery in KSM but that never happened.

Connery as Quatermain in a faithful attempt at adapting King Solomon's Mines -- I'd happily have that sitting on my shelf next to the 1975 adaptation of The Man Who Would Be King (Connery plays Daniel Dravot).
