"MONSTERS:2: DARK CONTINENT"

Postby AVERY GUERRA » Sat May 14, 2011 7:30 pm

The sequel is on without Gareth Edwards and now with 2 directors attached plus the first early details revealed. Apparently the aim to make it more of a genre film and amp up the action!:

"hey we've got this really neat little experimental one-off film that was better than expected and generated more revenue than expected. it was unique and original...what should we do?"

'make a sequel without the original director and completely change the tone of the movie to a more popcorn style film'

Well, generally sequels do aim to amp up the action, budget, and fx. Actually the lack of those elements were the basis of most genre fans' complaints about the film[of those who didn't think it delivered]... :)

Edwards is still producing it.

I'm gonna say the same thing about this that I said about the proposed sequel to the Host. Its not something I'd be entirely crazy about but if they can find a cool way to use the original as a springboard and expand on the mythology with a good story like Cameron did with Aliens, then I'm all for it.

i'm gonna go out on a limb here because i've now seen two people bring up Aliens

it's not THAT good of a movie.

is it better than MOST sequels (and everything James Cameron has done since)? yes, of course, but the last half-hour is really just a re-hash of the first (vastly superior) film.

I liked Monsters, and I'm fine with them changing the tone. Another film like the first would rather be boring a second time. Expanding the mytholgy to a more "hollywood" type of film isn't a bad idea really.
