Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Postby Robert Saint John » Thu Jun 17, 2010 2:26 pm

I've heard this title on and off for ages, never seen the comic (or graphic novel?) it's based on, but this looks hilarious and wonderfully original. Talk about a comic book come to life!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kjt4vhSqtFQ

Synopsis from IMDB (which sounds stupid, I suppose, but watch the trailer):

Scott Pilgrim's life is so awesome. He's 23 years old, in a rock band, "between jobs," and dating a cute high school girl. Everything's fantastic until a seriously mind-blowing, dangerously fashionable, roller blading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers starts cruising through his dreams and sailing by him at parties. But the path to Ms. Flowers isn't covered in rose petals. Ramona's seven evil exes stand between Scott and true happiness. Can Scott beat the bad guys and get the girl without turning his precious little life upside-down?

Visually it looks kinda interesting and I LOVE Edgar Wright, but this honestly looks like hipster garbage to me (along with the terribly drawn comics its base on). And I can't get over the only way this guy can stay with this stuck up girl is to fight this girl's seven exes. And why does someone that young even HAVE seven ex-lovers?

And I can't stand Michael Cera (or Jesse Eisenburg or Jonah Hill or any of those other mumbly bastards).

Scott Pilgrim always struck me as the Twilight of comics and I tried to get into the comics, but just found them unbearable. Its gonna take more than Edgar Wright's involvement to get me excited for the movie. There's an audience for this, and who knows, the movie might just win me over... but other than the interesting visuals, there's not anything that's won me over so far... it could happen, but this movie just hasn't been able to catch my eye yet.... since I'm a fan of Wright's, I'm hoping he's able to pull a Kick-Ass and make a movie better than the comic.

huh, I have no idea who any of these people you're talking about are. But the movie looks like a funny tale about nerds & what they imagine their lives to be.

In fact, I couldn't help but think of The Sasquatch Gang. The trailer for this made me think this must be what those characters see in their minds while going about their daily activities, if that makes sense. It took a bit to grow on me, but I really like TSG & this looks like a similar type of humor, if delivered in a very different manner. I guess I feel like this is what you'd get if you asked those characters to make an autobiographical film.

Ah, well. At least it's its own single movie and in that manner untouchable - it's really bad when a series' future is cast in doubt due to sub-par performance at the B.O.

... what I'm saying is: I want Hellboy 3.
