I caught most of the movie again on FX yesterday. Although I don't love How To Train Your Dragon like I originally did, I still get a kick out of it. The characters are well handled, the plot moves at a good, brisk pace, and the soundtrack is a delight to listen to within the film and by itself. What I really like about the film, however, is the animation quality. Dreamworks has gotten incredibly good at capturing subtle, lifelike details in their films - from basic skin texture, to hair & clothing rustling in the breeze, to simple gestures and weight-shifting that breathe life into the characters. Toothless alone makes the film worth watching with his numerous expressions and his humorous ability to turn from frightening to adorable in a split-second.

The animation is the primary reason I'm looking forward to How To Train Your Dragon 2; plus I am very eager to see how the reunited family dynamic will play out.

Took my nephew to see HTTYD2 yesterday. It's a pretty good sequel, and leaves you wondering what Dreamworks might do for a sequel.

There's a couple points in the movie that made me wonder if the folks at Pixar when discussing the sequel said to themselves

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men?

For the third movie, and I'm not putting this in spoilers because these ideas don't really spoil anything from the movie, I think it's going to involve finding more Night Furies. Maybe one, maybe a group but they pointed out the rarity of Night Furies in this movie. And I wouldn't be surprised if they try for a femme fatal type villain to test Hiccup and Astrid's relationship.
