This movie should be made in Japan with Shinji Higuchi directing the appropriately traditional miniature special effects. That's the vibe I got watching the series more than anything else. It truly needs to be a Japanese Tokusatsu production.

I say make it in a fashion similar to 300/Watchmen, as much as people here seem to hate that style. I think it would lend itself well to the scenery we're expected to see.
The battles with the Angels are the only things which worry me. Whether with CGI or in the old-school tokusatsu-style, I doubt any movie-going public would take the effects seriously. CGI is the best bet though.

Deep within me there is a little center of schadenfreude that would have only been more happy to see that same sentence with the word 'Firefly'

This is so hilarious I love it.
And are we sure this isn't perfect? I mean, so much of Evangelion is the psychological examination of a 14-year-old boy's coming of age, and Michael Bay never stopped being 14.

I hate how people are taking that quote out of context. Bay basically says he likes Evangelion. Somehow that got blown into "ZOMG HE MIGHT MAKE THE EVA MOVIE"
If I was a famous director, I'd just go around saying I'd like to make various movies just so the internet will explode.

It's far from confirming anything is happening, but just the fact that he expresses interest is a cause for concern in my opinion. Bay's a very successful director, and if he wants to do something you know they'd be eager to hand it to him. And there are implications in responding to a "is it happening?" question with a silent smile. Or maybe that's just reading too much into it.
