Have you been to a ski resort? Some ski lifts are HUUUGE and span way past the main grounds of the resort... all it would take is a careless employee for someone to get stuck. But even for this film, if you watch the trailer, the resort takes passes that and the girl gets everyone in WITHOUT passes, so nobody knows there are people there. And those lifts go HIIIIIIGH. Being stuck up there, the odds are you can jump (most likely to your death) and stay there and freeze and wait for something (most likely until you die). I think its a great premise.
The set up might require a bit of suspension of disbelief, but I don't see how its more improbable than the set ups in most thrillers like Seven which also leans on improbable coincidences... in fact, most thrillers do that, even some of the best (look at Vertigo- totally improbable!). Besides, a lot of those doubts about he set up may very well be dismissed well in the film... we can't tell though cuz we haven't seen it.
