It's not horrible, but the pacing in this series is haphazard, to put it nicely. The first eight minutes of the series are totally wasted on nonexistent tension from the woman unrealistically finding her kid in New York City when he was supposed to be in a hospital anyway, a guy who takes the crash of a fighter jet in close proximity way too easily (makes some sense later), and what was it again? Oh yes, first contact with an alien race!
Then the episode decides that it can skip ahead a day, then three weeks or whatever, and tries to pass off the immediate transition of loving the Visitors waaaaaay too easily. Even though we don't even see most of what makes the Vs so beloved; we're only told instead.
The special effects in this are pretty good, and there seems to be some merit in the series. I'm willing to give it a second episode, but I'm far from impressed. I'm not even old enough to remember the original, and yet I'm already thinking it will prove to be the better series.

Yeah, WAY too rushed. And I don't remember the original having that angle that they'd actually been on earth for years? Maybe I just don't recall that. But what really got me is the "reptile reveal".... A human guy gets a bunch of people together and has a doctor make a little cut behind one person's ear so you can see normal human bone. Then he explains that they cultured genetically-engineered human skin TO COVER THEIR REPTILLIAN SKIN. He just comes out and tells you in passing. Then several minutes later one of them gets some skin busted open in a fight and you can see it. But c'mon, where's the surprise? Always a good idea to just have some guy tell you the twists 20 minutes before they happen...

Eh, I had a bad feeling about V after watching the commercials over the summer (and then noticing a distinct LACK of commercials as the Fall started). My impression is just... bleh. While the opening was alright IMO, it went downhill fast. The story was blah, the premise didn't make much sense (why did NOBODY question their human appearance?), the "twists" toward the end felt cheap - the whole thing ended up feeling ridiculous.
A shame, really, 'cause the cast is decent and the SPFX pretty good. Too bad the writing isn't up to par. I'll probably be passing on this in the future.

Yes, the 2nd episode was better. But the writing is still run-of-the-mill. At least the pace, as pointed out, is less cracked out.

It's gotten better. I'm sticking with it for now.

And now we might have a "star child" homage on our hands! This show is shaping up...I feel sorry for all those who gave it only one chance then bailed. I read that we'll be getting a nod to the original series fan favorite scene of Diana eating the guinea pig...I'm surprised we didn't see it yet! Interesting to note the "V's" in the new series will eat cooked foods, so not sure if they even eat live foods. Or if they even want to eat humans!? It will be interesting to see what their ultimate goal is, and how it differs from the original. Loved the closing shot on episode 4 with the approaching armada!
One thing that bothered me though, was when the "Fifth Column" guy told the blond FBI woman (sorry, not good with names) to "ask him anything" pertaining to him being a visitor...and she hardly asked ANYTHING at all. You'd think she would at least ask the all important question of why they are even there!

Mbozzo...I agree that Anna is more cunning! She's kinda creepy too in that cult leader sort of way. I do like how they made her determined to always get her way though...definitely a classic "Diana" trait.

I'm glad you gave it a chance Bryan! I feel the same way though...the original just can't be touched in my opinion. It's too burned into my awesome 80's childhood memories.
