Hmm. Maybe I'm pretty much reacting to the whole body-count concept of it, it just makes me queasy, something very Rube Goldberg-ish about the way people (usually but not always teens) are set up like bowling pins to be knocked down.

(for example, that opening sequence for Ghost Ship, without giving it away, is another example of a contrived set-up that just makes you go...

I love a good fright flick, and that especially includes Argento, Bava, zombies, Giger's aliens, Carpenter, Raimi, Clive Barker, Lynch, and all the glorious mayhem that ensues in their movies, as well as exploitation flicks up to about the end of the 70's

..........BUT, something turned in the last several years that makes me kind of repulsed at what's being churned out these days. Especially those movies you just mentioned as well as the remakes of The Hills Have Eyes or Texas Chainsaw Massacre...or even The Hitcher.
