Which should I see first: Alien or Aliens?

Postby The Dark Uniter » Wed Aug 05, 2009 4:23 pm

I never seen any of the Alien films other than Alien vs Predator. I noticed both movies are mention on most top 100 plus movie lists and I want to know what's the difference between both of them and what should I see first. I looked at the directors of the films and they are Ridley Scott and James Carmon. James Carmon directed one of my favorite sequels Teminator 2 and Ridley Scott directed timeless classics like Blade Runner, Black Hawk Down, and American Gangster.

considering Alien is the first movie, that would be my vote...

but IN GENERAL you could pretty much watch either one (though the first 25-30 minutes of Aliens will have you scratching your head if you skip Alien) so it depends what you're in the mood for.

Alien is a horror film and works itself as such. You catch only fleeting glimpses of the Alien and it's terrorization is on a relatively small scale.
Aliens is a sci-fi action film and again, works itself as such. There are multiple aliens terrorizing a full planet of colonists and there are extended shots of the aliens, no longer shrouded in mystery that comes with 'whats that scary thing stalking me?'

Yup go with Alien first, very atmospheric film, definitely more horror within than the action packed sequel!!! Both great films though! GAME OVER!!

Thanks for your suggestions, guys. Next time I go to a video store or on demand, I'll check out Alien first then comment on it on this thread after watching it.

Problem with Alien 3 to me is the movie is just so damn boring. They really stretched out an 80 minute plot into a 2 and a half hour movie.
