Doctors Kruvajan and Gorobec and (Andrea Checchi and John Richardson) accidentally revive Princess Asa (Barbara Steele), a witch who swore to destroy the Vajda family when she was gruesomely executed two centuries before. With the help of her demonic henchman Javutich (Arturo Dominici), Asa's plan is to possess the body of young Katia Vajda (also Steele), kill her father the Prince (Ivo Garrani) and begin a new reign of terror.

Not much need to be said about this classic, Bava is a Horror legend and this is indeed one of the best films to come out of Italy and one of the most important films to the genre itself. This film is ace on all levels, great cast, great atmosphere & plot. A must have and essential to anyone who loves Horror!

I love Mario Bava's films. That said, I enjoy Black Sunday, but can't help but find it overrated in comparison with many of his other films.

I prefer the likes of Black Sabbath, Blood and Black Lace, Danger: Diabolik, Planet of the Vampires, Bay of Blood, Lisa and the Devil etc.

I've heard some people say the film works best in Italian, and I wouldn't be surprised if the stale dubbing on the DVD is hurting my enjoyment of the film.

I like all of Bava's films for the most part, with Black Sabbath being 2nd in line, but yes watching these in Italian is a big part of the enjoyment and seriousness within. If you can pick up the Anchor Bay box-sets 1 & 2, they are superior to any other prints IMO, great quality.
