I kind of feel bad for Rob Zombie because the guy obviously loves horror films and has a ton of respect for the Halloween franchise, but his remake just plain fell flat for me.

The stuff he added really didn't bring anything to the film (In fact, I think providing a real motivation for why Michael Myers kills actually makes the character less frightening.) and the things he retained from the original were retained so faithfully that they were essentially just reshoots.

Reading the description of the sequel likewise leaves me cold. :? Again, it's kind of sad because I know somewhere deep inside Rob Zombie has an awesome horror movie waiting to claw it's way out, but I don't think it's going to be part of his Halloween series. He was pretty close with House of 1,000 Corpses...maybe he should try making an original slasher-type character.

Exactly...I like the idea of the victim of a slasher going crazy and maybe becoming a slasher themself. (just my idea of where I think Zombie will go with it) But...well..I for one think that the whole Laurie being Michael's sister thing was always stupid and Rob seems fasinated by one of the weakest parts of the original series...had this been an original movie I dare say I'd be psyched ish at the moment...but Michael with a beard is like a mute Deadpool, an emo Darth Vader, or a giant iguana who is supposed to be Godzilla...when you throw a recognizable name on something you kinda have to stay close to the brand name and what your character means to both the general public and the fans. If you stray too far you'd better have an awesome idea or take...The Thing and The Fly don't resemble the original films at all really but everyone still loves em. Zombie's take on Michael is ok for a generic slasher but he in no way resembles " The Shape."

I did like the look of Michael in the first one though...although I wish it wasn't Tyler behind the mask...his frame is too bulky and large to be the stealthy, silent killer that Michael originally was.

Either way, I'm open to this now...Zombie kinda wore me down with this...it's just so insane it could work, and at least it looks to be something new. I just hope he is telling the story not just because he wants to get out of the deal with the Weinsteins.

Judging from this interview, Rob seems really bitter now towards remakes and sequels and studios in general... It sounds like he knows that by making these Halloween movies, he's part of the problem and it doesn't sound like he's really all too gung ho about them. Its becoming obvious that he's only doing these to get funding for his own projects... its like Spielberg always said "you make a film for them, then if you're lucky, they let you make a film for you." Even though it probably ensures that this Halloween will be no better than the last, you kinda have to respect Rob's honesty and the fact that he knows well what he's playing a part in. He's really just being a realist about the whole thing.

Also, Dread Central has a pretty good interview up now where Zombie talks a lot about the changes he made for H2 and why he did (his thinking behind the hobo-Myers change is actually kinda neat).

I hope this movie has an ending since they forgot to put one on the first one. Then again, once the first one jumped 15 years, the movie just went down hill.

I've seen a trailer today about Halloween 2. Looks pretty intense, but I still want to see The Final Destination over it.
