I was thinking about the story of the friendship between James Kirk and Gary Michell. It could be based on the 3 novels series, Brother's Keeper. Instead of being the bad guy of 'Where No Man Has Gone Before', he could be the good guy in Star Trek 12.

I hope the next film has the Enterprise crew exploring an unknown alien planet (with maybe some interference from the Klingons, if they really want any villains!), and live up to the Star Trek slogan: To seek out new life forms and new civilizations, and boldly go where no man has gone before!

I think they should take the same approach as Meyer and Co did with Khan. Do an off-shoot of an original episode with a whole new spin on it. An episode with another memorable character other than Khan but one that would have a profound impact on Kirk and crew's future. That's the way to go.
