Saw this right before Thanksgiving. It's really good.

Puts ALOT of other recent Vampire movies to shame. Recommended!!

I finally saw this today! Man....I should have just bought the darn thing...I need to add this to my collection. Excellent, excellent movie....can't praise it enough. It's like a mix of the childhood sweetness from a Myazaki film mixed with the most graphic of Hammer films! The company that released this seems to have some other interesting films in their upcoming roster, namely, Eden Log, Splinter and Time Crimes...deff plan on renting all of those as well.

I watched it subbed. I usually don't watch anything dubbed.

And yeah, it was a girl playing the vampire, but they auditioned both boys and girls for the role.

I thought so though the hands did look a little manish especially the fingers.

Speaking of foreign horror films, is [Rec] going to get a stateside release?

Can't say that I'm surprised they dumbed down the subs. Whether or not Americans are stupid, the entertainment/media suits think that they are.

OTOH, this happens pretty consistently. I think a lot of times it isn't really intentionally dumbing down but who is transliterating the language. Translating is just one part of the process. Transliterating is making it into something palatable to the culture it's aimed at.

So it'll depend on who's doing it and what their aim is and what they find to be important to the overall jist of what's being said.

I've been watching Detective Office 5, and believe the original production company is creating their own subs. And those are way off from what's actually being said. It could be to dumb it down or could be just to make the transliteration flow better.

Could be worse, they could be remaking it in Engli... oh wait, doh. :(

Remaking a current international movie into English, that's what I find incredibly insulting to everyone in the process. From the original creators to the consumers.

What I am surprised about is that Magnolia is even remastering the DVD/BR at all.

Are you serious? I just bought the BD the other day on amazon(arriving tomorrow), and you're telling me the subs are all screwed up? I ordered it because I've read a lot of great things about the film, so... lol.... why didn't they just use the original translations in the first place? They obviously have them available, and they didn't include them? geez....
