Shazam! To Split Into Two Films: Dwayne Johnson To Star As ‘Black Adam’

William Goldman [author of A Princess Bride and it's screenplay] wrote a script for the movie early on. From what I've read since, everyone that had a chance to read Goldman's screenplay really liked it -- unfortunately his script was canned in favor of the current one. [Those involved with the movie keep referencing the movie Big in regards to the current script :? ]

I love "BIG" but that's not what Captain Marvel and Shazam! were about. wish fulfillment.

I wish they'd just leave the comics alone. great comic characters and stories keep being turned into mediocre (at best) movies.

Maybe Devin could not smell what The Rock was cooking.

As a 'Shazam' movie is rumoured to be on Warners/DC's schedule, we weigh up the evidence that this could be Dwayne Johnson's long-promised DC role

I actually think he'd make a fine Captain Ma... err, Shazam. Just find a kid with matching skin tone to play Billy Batson (since I always figured that the form Shazam takes is just Billy grown up).

Why are they making a movie about an old ass wizard? We already have Lord of the Rings for that.

I thought The Rock was playing some other DC hero that I supposedly should have heard of but never have...Doc Savage?

Doc Savage is a classic pulp hero, not DC.

Doc Savage is a Street & Smith character, same publisher also printed The Shadow. Between the Knight of Darkness and the Man of Bronze (and S&S's own copycat characters of the two) it's pretty fair to say that S&S was the most immediate grandfather of the world of superheroes we have today.

The Rock should just play Shazam. If he's the villain, who could they possibly get with more charisma to be the hero?

^ This is the DCU. Forget charisma and bring on the dark and brooding

If the DCCU doesn't take full advantage of the death & return of Superman in the movies to bring movie-Superman's character fully inline with how Superman ought to be, introducing Captain Marvel could also serve as a the character who teaches DCCU-Supes & DCCU-Batman the invaluable lesson of "what it means to be a hero". I leave Wonder Woman out of this because between what I saw in BvS, the the WW movie trailer, she seems to already know "what it means to be a hero" -- which is funny considering considering the valid criticisms of Zack Snyder's Superman & Batman.
