Don't forget Steven Spielberg directed Crystal Skull which was the single most devastatingly bad film to ever crush my unabashed love of cinema. I hate that movie with many passions. You can blame whatever you want on Lucas, Spielberg was the director and he let it all happen, or made it all happen more accurately. Seriously, all my cynicism can be traced back to sitting in the theater opening day of Crystal Skull trying not to walk out. I hate that movie so much.

Hell, the last GOOD movie he made was 2005's Munich, and that's not GREAT. Even if you think it is, I don't think many will argue that Crystal Skull, Tin Tin, War Horse, or Lincoln are GREAT movies. So it's been at BEST 10 years since Spielberg made a good movie and probably a good deal more since he made a GREAT one (Catch Me if You Can? Minority Report? Saving Private Ryan?)

Is Steven Spielberg a BAD get for this? No, obviously not. But his name doesn't inspire the same level of "HOLY CRAP! YUSSSSS!" excitement as it once did. And I'm not 100% convinced Chris Pratt himself is a STAR yet. He's getting there, but he's not a Jennifer Lawrence, Christian Bale, Matthew McConaughey draw just yet.

I don't think Crystal Skull is as bad as its reputation. As a matter of fact, I don't think it's even the worst Indiana Jones film - that honor goes to Temple of Doom, which to me is like the template for an empty yet overstuffed sequel to a perfect original.

Maybe it's only the odd numbered Indy films that are good?
