Kevin Eastman Talks Live-Action TMNT
Source:RezBlack
September 2, 2008
"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" co-creator Kevin Eastman has confirmed the rumors that Imagi and Warner Bros. are in talks to develop a new live-action movie based on the characters. He posted the following at HeavyMetal.com:
Yes, it is true. Although the CGI film did well enough to warrent a sequel, there has been much talk between Imagi and Warners to do a better "re-invention" (newest Hollywood buzzword) of the TMNT's, in a live action film--like what was done with Batman. Back to basics, back to the origin and the intro of the Shredder, etc...there have been talks, trips to Northampton to talk to Mr Laird, and discussions with the original "first" TMNT film director Steve Barron to come back and do it right--but no official word yet...will keep you posted. Best, Kevin
The CG-animated movie TMNT, which was released in March of 2007, earned $95 million worldwide compared to its $34 million budget.

I'm all for it.
The CG movie had the right look, but the overall watered-down nature was a let-down. I know some people can't stand to hear the "dark, gritty" element brought up again, but for TMNT, it's beneficial. Worked in the first live-action film and it could bring the necessary feel to the next one, hopefully.

^They were a parody of the dark gritty comics of the time. Particularly the early Frank Millar stuff which was coming onto the scene.
I was a huge childhood fan of the TMNT, and a few years ago I was an avid collector of the comics but stopped due to the spotty nature of the current stuff (when picking up the newest issue is more of a chore than fun it's time to stop), however, I absolutely loooove the original TMNT film. It was a childhood favorite and IMO one of the best comic book films of all time. The style of that movie imprinted itself on my brain and when I think of the early '90s I think of that movie. If Barron is involved that that is terrific news.

PL: As it stands now, there is no intention of doing another live-action film like the first three, with actors and stuntmen in actual Turtle suits, contrary to what was said by Kevin. We have pretty much decided that the next “TMNTâ€

I'm impressed, disappointed and shocked at Laird's interview.....
impressed because I liek the way he's thinking and I just LOVE his ideas for a new movie....hopefully that director's cut gets made, because I'd definitely like a re-do.
disappointed because Eastman's entry wasn't exactly true, and we won't ever see the rubber suits again....I actrually liked those suits and thought it gave the Turtles life...just like, in a way, the suit gives Godzilla life.
...and shocked, because I didn't think they'd actually think of making another one...hopefully it's in the cards soon.
....thjough am I the only one who thinks Chris Evans would need a makeup over haul to look like grungey Casey Jones? It'd be awesome if they actually showed some scenes of him fighting crime at night in central park, in the hockey mask.....

It looks like the Turtles from Michael Zulli's issues of the original comic book, where he drew them more as realistic turtles.
EDIT: Went and looked at some of the Zulli drawings and I think it is definatley the inspiration, and if the people doing the new TMNT film are that crazy than I'm all for it. What we don't need is a stale re-imagining.

I don't want TMNT looking like that. Just doesn't look very teenage to me and that beak .... I wouldn't know what to do about that beak. lol
