The X-Files: I Want To Believe

Postby Cookie » Sun Jun 08, 2008 5:54 am

The 2nd X-Files film comes out July 25th. Duchovny and Anderson are both returning to fulfill their roles as Mulder and Scully.

Official Website: http://xfiles.com

Has the theatrical and teaser trailer on the site. The movie is based 6 years after the Season 9 series finale, which makes sense. The movie is a stand-alone type of film, meaning no aliens, though I expect some of the mythology elements of the show to be at least mentioned.

For me, I'm very excited for the film. I just became a fan about 2 years ago while watching some episodes late at night on TNT..Now I have all 9 seasons, including the first movie.

For you all wondering why they waited so long to make another film. FOX and Chris Carter, the creator of 'The X-Files', were in a lawsuit battle over the show(2003-2007). The lawsuit FINALLY ended late last year and they IMMEDIATELY green-lit the 2nd X-Files film. Production began in November.

I'm gonna see it even though nothing good has come out of the X-Files since season 4 or 5.

Its kinda hard to get excited about the movie when the trailer doesn't show anything plot-related... most boring trailer ever.

I recently re-watched the final disc of Season 9 to remind myself how the series ended. Most important (I thought) would be to re-watch the two-hour final episode, "The Truth". For some reason I couldn't remember a thing about it.

Turns out it's because it was soooo bad, I blanked it from my memory. A dumb, dumb, dumb way to try to wrap up all the loose threads and tie it into a single finale. It should have been called "The Flashback Episode" or "The Exposition". Absolutely pointless.

Anyway, just passing this on because if anyone feels like they might have the need to re-watch it in order to slip back into the new movie, don't bother. I have a feeling that the only pre=requisite in seeing this new movie will be knowing what the X-Files were, and who Mulder and Scully were. I can't believe for a second that they would drudge up all the crap from the last few seasons that only drug down the show in the first place.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Not the best film in the world, but I felt it was at least on the same level as the last one.

Part of me enjoyed the "monster of the week" feel, but I would have preferred something a bit more epic.

I honestly always kind of liked the "monster of the week" stories.

I watched the hell out of The X-Files for the first three or four seasons, but then my interest in it dropped off pretty sharply. I'm kind of interested in the new movie, but in all honesty I think seeing The Dark Knight a second time takes priority. On the other hand, the series itself is like $20 a season now, so I may have to pick up some of it.

Despite all the negative reviews i'm still gonna see it. The X Files was truly the last show I watched regularly on tv.
