Heath Ledger Dead at 28

Postby briizilla » Tue Jan 22, 2008 5:58 pm

[color=red][quote]The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment building at 421 Broome Street in SoHo, according to the New York City police. Mr. Ledger was 28.
At 3:31 p.m., a masseuse arrived at Apartment 5A in the building for an appointment with Mr. Ledger, the police said. The masseuse was let in to the home by a housekeeper, who then knocked on the door of Mr. Ledger’s bedroom. When no one answered, the housekeeper and the masseuse opened the bedroom and found Mr. Ledger unconscious. They shook him, but he did not respond. They immediately called the authorities. The police said they did not suspect foul play and said they found pills near body.
Mr. Ledger, a native of Perth, Australia, won acclaim for his role as a co-star in “Brokeback Mountainâ€

At first, I just could not believe this. Then, upon a suggestion from my brother, I went to MTV.com, since they're situated in New York, and well, it's true I'm afraid...

I just read this....WOW. To think he had quite possibly an amazing role to turn loose with Batman, and now he's gone.

Very shocking.

One of the guys in my film class announced this to rest of the class just an hour ago. At first everybody laughed and thought he was bullshitting, but then the instructor pulled up the CNN.com article. Terribly tragic. He was a fantastic actor, and I thought his passion and dedication to what he did was very evident in every movie I've seen him in. Condolences to his family.

Hopefully he'll be remembered fondly in the entertainment world, as he never did quite get the level of stardom he deserved while alive. It will be interesting to think that his performance as The Joker in The Dark Knight will now go down as his swan song, and from what we've seen of him in that role so far it could very well be the performance of his lifetime.

Just wanted to ask something, in the general: It's been stated that he himself said the role of The Joker was so intense, he had to take sleeping pills to sleep.....so could it be that this intensity he was willing to put into the role led to his OD'ing on sleeping pills?

What exactly could it have been about the role that made him not sleep at night? As far as I know, when researching a role, you read on past literature and watch anything on it, if available, so I figured, he went out and bought every Joker-related comic and graphic novel out there and just read them whenever he could, to get a better idea of the character....

But it makes you wonder....what else was he viewing/researching/seeing, that led to his insomnia?

but all in all, sad news, and now my viewing of TDK will have more meaning, more detail, because I'll want to see Ledger's Joker in full effect.

R.I.P Ledger. We'll miss ya.
