Well it's been a little over two years since Peter Jackson's remake of King Kong was released. It certainly didn't turn out to be the blockbuster everyone was expecting it to be and it seems like most people have completely forgotten about it.
What are you opinions? Looking back, what did you think of the movie then? What do you think of it now.
IMHO, getting through that movie was an absolute chore. The running time was unbearable, especially considering the 1933 original feels long and it runs just over 100 minutes. It featured way too many pointless, overblown and inane special effects sequences. It was loud, it was pretentious and I don't feel like it even needed to be made.
It didn't mess with Kong name the way GINO did with Godzilla's. But it certainly did nothing to make him viable commodity again.

It was fun at the time but in hindsight it was completely pointless...

Jackson's Kong Two years Later?
Location: KB Toys at Dolphin Mall in Miami.
Date: Dec 18; Christmas Rush
Old King Kong Toys from 2005 STILL littering the shelves. I ask the kid who works there if they have any of the new Godzilla figures in stock. He tells they're right next to the Kong figures and tries to show me and and tells me they had a lot.
Guess what?
"Oops...Looks like we sold out again today. Come back tomorrow."
In your face BEARD-O! Aww yeah. That "silly lizard", the Big G still comes out on top...

I don't know, I really enjoyed it. When I explain the message to people, they "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" bricks.
I got the DVD right when it came out, and then left it at my friend's house, and I ask him for it back like every week. I really want my DVD back.

I thought the ice skating was cute and funny. In a better movie,I probably would have thought that scene was dumb, but since it was one of the only two interesting scenes in the movie,I liked it.

BRILLIANT! (IMO)
Myself, I can't understand the "Ran too long" mentality".
(I suppose if you drank too much cola and had to pee..)
I guess I have a longer attention span and am more patient than most folks today.

I wasn't in love with it, but in the end I did give it my thumbs up. :th-up:
Criticisms of it's length however, I think are justified. Jackson so much loved the original, that he didn't know where to stop with his!
I've heard some state, why are people picking on this movie alone on it's length, when there have been long movies in the past? Difference is that this movie contains a lot of fat (the spider-pit scene for instance), which didn't add anything to the narrative, expect showcase the special effects.
Look at another long movie like say "Seven Samurai", which had no fat, and every single scene had a specific purpose.
