OMFG Alex Ross is a god.

I've been waiting on this DVD release for years. I don't even care that it's one disc, that cover is just too "OH GODZILLA! WHAT TERRIBLE LANGUAGE!" awesome. Anamorphic widescreen, 5.1 surround, and some bonus material doesn't hurt either. ;)

I just read the first volume collection of Alex Raymond's original Flash Gordon comic strip.

The storyline is simplistic to the point of irrelevance; it's totally the Raymond art that makes the strip amazing (and it still is amazing). I can only imagine what people back then thought when they opened up the newspaper and saw this incredibly rendered sci-fi/fantasy world. I think it must have been like going to the theater in '33 and seeing King Kong for the first time.
