now this is how you do things right- a great transfer of the movie, 3 docs, trailers (though i didn't see the actual movie trailer!) and a complete extra movie- THE INVISIBLE BOY! the movie is just great, an A list MGM picture.
there are deleted scenes and "lost" (now found) scenes as well, which are some effects stuff not seen for 50 years. those workprint scenes actually look "soft" but heck, it's nice to see them.
it's an amazing picture, and every Trekkie should thank MGM for inspiring Star Trek!
i didn't go for the delux set, since i didn't need another toy to dust!

Got mine from DDD in yesterday afternoon's mail. The deluxe set-up is sweet! Cool Robby toy and lobby card set with repros from both Forbidden Planet and Invisible Boy. They even have a flyer eclosed where you can buy your very own full-sized (7ft.!), functioning replica of Robby! No cost was printed, and I couldn't find any pricing info on the website, either. I'm guessing it must be in the stratosphere, since it sure looks 100% accurate. Guess I'll just stick with my free toy!
I'll be watching the rest of FP later, but the first few minutes I screened certainly looked awesome. Especially compared to my old VHS tape. Beautiful, crisp picture and great sound.
The 3 documentaries were very, very nice. The making of Forbidden Planet was very cool. They got bits in from all of the main surviving actors. I really learned a lot of stuff I did not know about previously. This docu. has great replay value. The "Watch The Skies" from TCM was nice, too. Making of Robby was interesting. Cool to find out that the man behind the Robby design also did B9 from Lost in Space!
This DVD is well worth the money, folks. You don't have to splurge for the tin box top dollar version either. I believe the standard 50th Anniversary Edition has everything the deluxe set does except the toy and the tin box.
If you're a fan of this classic sci-fi film, you owe it to yourself to get a copy if you don't have it, or upgrade your existing one. You'll be glad you did!
Off to finish watching FP now! Maybe Invisible Boy tomorrow.

Invsible Boy is a pretty nice movie - there was no robot in the short story it's based on but because FP came out the year before and still maintained a high popularity the director [or producer] had him put into the movie.
I've got my set {collector's version} coming too (ordered last day of sale) but I'll have to wait to watch it - it's part of my Christmas gifts this year.

You know what would have made this DVD set even cooler?
If it came packaged with one of these

Yep that's right. A LIFE-SIZE version of the robot.
