Tuned in to see this on a Saturday afternoon creature feature as a young tyke back in the 70's. Was very bummed when I learned the "monsters" were just big rocks, but the plot drew me in and by the film's end I was cheering the clever way the townies "killed" the invaders.

It really is a unique film for its choice of a villain.

The mystery at the beginning got me hooked, much like the start of "Them!" By the time the rest of the cast has put 2 & 2 together, you're riding shotgun towards the climax and hoping it'll all work out. The way people turned to stone was creepy, and it almost made this little kid sick to his stomach to imagine my guts turning into lumps of granite! Incidently, this flick was where I first learned about silicon and helped turn me into an amateur rockhound.

Glad to see it coming to DVD. I have Monolith on VHS, along with all of the others in this set. Too bad Universal didn't bopther to include 'Land Unknown,' and 'Island of Terror' to round out the set. Maybe those two will get a double-feature release sometime down the line. Hope so. Love 'The Land Unknown' for its great cast and the acting of the crazed "caveman" the expidition encounters. However, Jock Mahoney is a serious ham. ;)
