I changed this from my original title "Heath Ledger as the Joker?!"- Now that he's confirmed and the title has been announced, I figured this can be the thread for the new Batman.

Yeah... I have to say I'm just really disappointed cuz I was so confident they would pick someone I like... but I know thats not how things work and I just hope Nolan and Co. saw something in Ledger that we don't... But I never liked Ledger, in fact I always hated him as an actor for years. And the Joker is my favorite comic book character of all time... I'm confident they will deliver a well directed and (most likley) well scripted movie, but I was hoping for someone more unknown. I dont wanna see it and think "I'm watching Heath Ledger act like the Joker", I wanna see it and think "Wow, I'm watching THE Joker." And I just don't see him giving us that maniacal laugh.

I just dont like a Hollywood pretty boy who might as well be posing for underwear ads playing the most demented villain, mean and evil character in comic books.

The things that give me A TINY BIT OF HOPE are the times when I hated casting decisions and ended up liking the performance anyway... like Jack Black in King Kong, I thought he did a good job (not amazing, but good)... and as a big fan of Johnny Cash, when I heard Joquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon (never liked either of em) were gonna be Johnny and June, I was ready to boycott the movie 100% (especially with Reese being June Carter)... then the trailers came out, and the reviews came in and I had some hope... and then they both ended up blowing me away. Phoenix should have won the Oscar and WItherspoon's was well deseverd IMO. So I hope to god this will be a similar case.

I was hoping for Paul Bettany. Still, in Nolan I trust (anyone check out the trailer for The Prestige?).

THe Prestige looks bad ass.

And I DO trust in Nolan... but not in Ledger.

Well, I watched In the Line of Fire last night...John Malkovich is very convincing as a psychotic killer. I've never really thought of him as having a comedic side though...perhaps if Nolan was interested in an older Dent/ Two Face. Or perhaps, Christian Slater in a comeback or Matt Dillon...

I can't remeber if this was an old rumor, or just something a friend said, but a pick that I think would be good and be very... well interesting in many ways... Michael Keaton. Again not fact.. may not even be a rumor. Just an idea.

Keaton could've pulled it off. He can act VERY maniacal - he had a brief moment of it in Burton's Batman against Jack Nicholson(the true Joker....Mark Hamil's the true Joker's voice, IMO) and looked really good.

He's done maniacal in the past, so I think he could've done a good job. I figure this could've been an ironic nod to the original Batman.
