Goliath and the Dragon DVD Question?

I'm not sure how much of a difference between original sources Alpha has vs Something Weird there is. There's definately a huge retail price difference though. The Something Weird one says it's "digitally remastered", but who knows what that really means, depending on how truthful any given company is about the quality of their product. Maybe someone here has seen both versions? David maybe?

says the Something Weird disc is in really good shape. And it seems to come with a lot of extras and even another movie ("The Conqueror of Atlantis"), whereas the Alpha is gonna be bare bones.

I've never actually seen this movie myself, but know that the original Italian version just used puppets and things for the effects and when it was imported to the US, Jim Danforth was brought on to do the animation for the dragon.

I've got the Alpha release, and overall the quality is good and the film is presented in letterbox format, but the monster action is disappointing. I got mine because I had heard that the stop animation of the dragon was done by a disciple of Harryhausen, but to be honest this sequence is a few seconds only and most of the time the dragon is represented by a moth-eaten puppet.

the stop-motion dragon is done by Jim Danforth, not really a Harryhausen "disciple" tho definately influenced by him. it was added at the behest of AIP, which is why it doesn't really look like the full size model.

I'll probably pick up the Alpha DVD at some point, just out of curiosity, since the print is also supposed to be fairly good and is widescreen.
