Hey yeah. love the novels too! I picked up three of the four and I'm currently searching for "Backwards". I love the idea of Lister stealing a hopping taxi to make money! If you can, pick up "Last Human". Fantastic read.

^What he means is that there must be fans in the US since all 8 seasons were released here (with tons and tons of extras to boot).

In the UK their are two releases. The ones we get here in the US, and sets containing several seasons with no extras (called "Just the Shows"), and now they're goint to release Red Dwarf Remastered (the first three seasons with redone CGI and other stuff that was used to get the more low-tech seasons in line with S7&8 to sell the show overseas).

After almost a decade since the show has ended it's all but confirmed that they're bringing back Red Dwarf for a special one hour episode this Christmas.

Link? I know they did a special mobisode *last* Christmas, but I haven't seen anything about the show returning to TV in any shape or form.

I'd love it to be true obviously, I just don't want to get my hopes up only to have them dashed upon the rocks of hope-dashing like so many other dashed hopes before.

...

Dashing.

Short and sweet from aicn. It's also been hinted at in other places, but Robert spilling the beans is the first concrete thing said.

They were working on a movie for pretty much that whole decade since they went off the air, and sadly nothing ever materialized... :(

AICN? The most untrustworthy excuse for a "news" site on the whole of the interwebs? The one that has built a reputation for consistently spewing massive amounts of BS that never turns out to be true, especially when they're the only place reporting such "news"? That AICN?

Yeeeeeaaaaahhh, I think I'll wait until somewhere a touch more credible reports it before I start getting too excited. :P

Well, as I said before, it was Rob Llewellyn (Kryten) who said this. Aicn was merely one of the sites that reported it.

Go to The official site for.. well, Official News.

Do keep in mind that this news is not, repeat NOT official.

It does appear to be True.. But it's not official.

After a whole lot of confusion over just what the return of RD would be (for a while it seemed like it was just a few clip shows) we have more clarification;

[quote]Robert Llewellyn (Kryten) told assembled journalists: “It’s very new news to me. I really only fully heard the details yesterday. We’re doing four new shows - two of them are going to be proper new episodes of Red Dwarf. [The third programme] is so exciting I’ve been asked not to say anything because other people will steal the idea. And it is a great idea, quite challenging for us as performers. The [final programme] is a kind of behind-the-scenes… the truth… there’s been so many rumours and gossip about Red Dwarf, so all those things.â€

It looks like:

Episode 1- Behind the scenes

Episode 2- New story, pt 1

Episode 3- New story, pt 2

Episode 4- Super-secret special thingy

...and it may not be so much a finale as a testing ground for new Red Dwarf TV stuff.

...and, they decided to scrap the "Who's line-" style special and have expanded Back to Earth into three episodes (apparently this arose when they filmed the series far to long for broadcast so they could be extended on the DVD, then realized if they cut a lot of the material out to fit the time slot then the story wouldn't make much sense).

Anywho, here's a picture:

Well, Back to Earth aired last weekend. The first episode was mostly padding (stretching the planned two epps into 3) but parts 2 and 3 made up for it. The general concensus was that it was good, not as good as RD at it's best, but pretty darn good - and that the story really should have been one 90 minute TV-movie instead of having one story hastily split into episodes.

Most interesting is that this isn't a finale at all, it's just a new story. It does point to some possible future developements and really does beg for a few more specials to wrap up the RD saga once and for all.
