2005-well the species Megaprimatus kong is documented at being between 18 to 25 feet. Kong was 25 feet. Of course this is on all fours, which is a gorilla's natural stance, they are only on their hind legs when they have to be.
1976-Paramount promoted their Kong to be 50 feet tall, and their barley filmed life-sized robot was just that. So I would say it is safe to assume that was his height.
