back in the 30s t rexes were thought to have three front fingers. it's a t rex according to the creators of the movie- read the book "The Making of King Kong".

And aside from anything else, it's just so much cooler that Kong beats a Tyrannosaurus than an Allosaurus.

Two of them are, since Horner is a consultant on the JP films and pushed the idea of using Spinosaurus in JPIII.
