Thanks KaijuZoo. I'll be sure to watch it.
Is this similar to what Animal Planet aired about Godzilla a few months ago?

From what I see so far yes. Even Bill Mumi as narrator.

For an hour-long documentary, it was very good. Quite informative and entertaining. I notice that they seemed to barely touch on Peter Jackson's King Kong remake, and did not show any footage from it. Kinda like they did on their Godzilla episode where they hardly mentioned Godzilla: Final Wars, and likewise did not show any film footage.

I notice that the makers of this documentary seemed to treat King Kong Lives the same way us fans do: Pretend that it doesn't exist.

I liked it for the most part.

They should have covered the controversy that preceded Toho doing King Kong vs. Godzilla. Of course they had to throw in the "low budget" slam when they did cover KKvG. I was waiting for them to ask Ray Harryhausen about it. I'm sure he would have said an earful. Loved Goldblum's comments about watching it. Noticed they said "Mecha-Kong" rather than "Mechani-Kong" when they touched on KKE.

Love or hate King Kong Lives (I like it), it's part of Kong's history and should have been covered. They should have mentioned the remake of Might Joe Young for that matter as well.

Not sure if this was the case with Kong, but Animal Icons' Godzilla episode was totally unauthorized by Toho or the US studios. Most of the footage shown was taken for trailers and electronic presskits. My guess is that AP didn't have access to material from the new KING KONG, KK LIVES, or the JOE YOUNG remake so they just ignored or glossed over those films.
