The cloning concept isn't so bad, but I'm kind of tired of the whole "governemt research project gone bad" plot movement. There's been so much of it in monster movies lately.

The film should probably be approached as sci-fi movie, in particular a daikaiju movie. Ideally, this would help the audience differentiate the movie and creature from the classic King Kong.

What the clone plot calls for is a mad scientist story. We haven't really had a good old fashioned mad scientist story in a long time. And set in the future, say no earlier than the 2030s, 2050s - 21XX would be better I think. This would allow for Kong to be larger in size [EG Showa Kong] through a 'random mutation' during the cloning process, or something like that. And should allow him to be/appear more threatening to the future-denizens.

Hey, that's not half bad - could be the workings of a new King Kong vs Godzilla story.

It's already been done, in the cartoon "Kong, the Animated Series" that is airing on Toon Disney.

Sure it isn't "official Kong" but what with this sticky little secret that KK is public domain it has just as much right to be as anything.

The Ann Darrow character (though they use a different name) became a scientist and clones Kong.

Real crappy show though.
