Sources say that a condition of the raises for Pine and Quinto was that the studio was granted options for a fourth movie in order to keep one of Hollywood's most iconic pairings, Kirk and Spock, intact.

"Not to blow the plot, [but] I'm the new Captain Kirk," he says, pushing Chris Pine out of the way.

I know a lot of people are already pissing all over this trailer but it's managed to rekindle my interest in the reboot series after Into Darkness burned me so hard. Cautiously looking forward to this.

^I think it looks great. I mean; explosions, kickass action and the Beastie Boys may not scream 'Star Trek,' but we also see the crew on their mission of exploration and coming into some sort of idealogical conflict with a new race of very Star Trek-y aliens. That sounds way more like a Star Trek film then the previous two.

Not a fan of the musical choice for the trailer BUT the visual content and what little I can glean of the plot seems to be good. It doesn't seem to be another big bad with a bigger badder ship but instead of stranded on hostile planet. So I'm totally happy with that. Hopefully the next trailer, in the coming months, has a better representation.

i felt pretty burned by Into Darkness... and the soundtrack to this trailer is so painfully distracting, between the Enterprise blowing up, the motor bikes and the sound track it looks like more "punch our way to a resolution"

Man...I guess I'm pretty much the only person who actually liked Into Darkness. Sure Cumberbatch as Kahn made no sense. But I thought all that aside, it was a pretty entertaining film. But I guess that comes from being more of a Star Wars fan, than Star Trek. Every time fans say "(Insert random film here) Didn't "feel" like Star Trek" I always point to the Original ST:TMP. This was pretty much the most Trek-Like film ever made, and it is regarded as one of the worst (possibly only ST V is more disliked).

I know Star Trek is not really about ships and space battles, but for me, that has always been the coolest part. This probably comes from being a fan of the anime series Space Battleship Yamato, (Star Blazers)where literally the titular ship IS the most important character. When people ask me what my favorite character in Trek is, I say - The Enterprise, which always gets a sideways look. Aside from the Destruction of the original Enterprise in ST III, the ships seem to have no real emotional connection in the film.

From all indications in the previous to next years film, the New Enterprise will be lost, and nobody seems to care. Why would they? Since no emotional connection has been made with this ship.
There are no more good TV Shows, only ones that haven't disappointed me yet.

Why? Into Darkness was great. Sure, it wasn't as good as the first one, but still, it had a great villain. I'm so tired of these movie makers just ignoring a movie because some people didn't like it. How about you stop being stupid and instead of ignoring it, you fix what was wrong with it in the next movie?

Into Darkness is fine if you aren't a fan of Star Trek. Even then it is jam packed with plot conveniences. The third act is terrible and the opening sequences defy logic. If you are a Star Trek fan then its one of the worst movies in a series that has a large number of misses.

The things they are specifically ignoring are the terrible plot conveniences (cheats) that Into Darkness introduced. Trans-galactic warp basically negates the need for Star ships and magic blood that brings people back to life and heals all injuries almost completely destroys any danger or consequences to actions.

Those are two things that should have never made it past draft stage. Lazy writing with no thought to the larger universe.

The trailer gave me a strong Insurrection vibe: a TV episode concept stretched to feature length, hoping that people won't notice as long as there are a few big action scenes to distract them. I'm certainly not making a quality judgement based on this trailer, but I worry that it may not have the scope that a big budget theatrical feature needs.
