It's not a moot point so please don't make excuses. Most of the stuff I mentioned is in the SF/Horror genre so there's no reason this couldn't be a well-written show just because it's based on comic books. The bar has been raised for ALL television. This kind of crap belongs in the 90's.

And my God, the references. They didn't stop at Marvel, they didn't stop at Disney. They referenced EVERYTHING.

So we just watched the first episode and first, I need to rant. I watched it On Demand so I don't have to deal with ****ING COMMERCIALS and what do I get? ****ING COMMERCIALS THAT CANNOT EVEN BE FAST FORWARDED THROUGH!!! I might as well just download the show so I don't have to deal with them because there were too many ****ing commercials and too many ****ing breaks in the show!!!!

Now that I got that out of the way, it was pretty good for a first episode. I don't like the idea that Colson's death was faked (even though they never really showed him dead in the movie), but whatever. I did like how it related back to Iron Man 3 no matter how much I dislike that movie, and I did like the jokes about Thor being a god and such, so it has my interest. I'd say it is on par with Arrow's first episode last year, but I'm going to remain skeptical for a bit. I'm hoping we get to see some actual super heroes though, both from the movies and others from the Marvel universe. The dialog was funny and it had some good moments. However, I have no idea who any of these characters are and they really did not give me a reason to care for them. Like what is so special about the lady in the cubicle they brought to pilot the plane? Who are the scientist couple that seem to be wannabe Wasp and Ant Man? I hope we actually get background on these guys. Overall, I liked it, but I might wait for a few episodes to be out so I can watch them in one sitting.

So I feel like Episode 3 has been the first legitimately good episode. I feel like the character arcs were doing their thang, there was a plot based around an ACTUAL COMIC BOOK CHARACTER *GASP* that seems to be hinting towards an even cooler possibility later in the season.

I'm glad somebody else is enjoying this. I'm wondering if we'll see Hall return as Graviton later in the series. This is kind of what I was hoping for when I first heard about this; them doing original stuff, but also using pieces of Marvel lore to base the episodes around. Maybe we'll see some other superheroes soon.

So far, I don't have any gripes about it. I didn't expect it to be amazing, so there's that. I like the cast; I can't think of anyone that feels "disposable" so to speak. I'd like to see a back story on May as to why she's so opposed to field work (and why they call her "The Cavalry"); that seems like it'd be a good story. But with it being a TV show, I figured it would take some time to really dig into the cast's back stories and stuff.

Also, I'm interested to see what's up with Coulson; in the first episode it's clear that S.H.I.E.L.D. is keeping a secret from him regarding the event of his death (as indicated by the doctor and Hill). Every time someone mentions Tahiti he says "It's a magical place." I don't buy the "Fury faked his death" thing. Something else is up with that.

Even if he doesn't, they've already shown that they're down for using existing material; which I believe bodes well for the rest of the series, and for comic book fans even more so (theoretically, anyway).

Two thumbs way up. :D

Eh. The show isn't really improving for me so far. Its still not bad but still not all that good, IMO. Its the definition of "meh."

It doesn't happen often that I agree with Devin Faraci, but his thoughts on the show echo my own pretty much to a T.

It is pretty meh, but I still say this week's episode was a marked improvement.

They couldn't afford to make a superhero TV series, so they made a spy TV series.

... it's not a very good spy series.

At least so far.

Yeah I'm not feeling it. I don't know if it really looks or feels cheap in set decoration and effects, but the plots and character interaction are so generic-action-tv-show feeling that I could shuffle this in with NCIS or Hawaii 5-O, etc and not feel too much of a difference.
This feels very small, very un-epic.
Maybe it will grow in scale as the season goes on, but right now... meh.

Just watched episode 4. Which, I kind of felt was alright, not as good as I felt 3 was, but the series seems to be improving. Hopefully that's true and it continues throughout the season.

I can't get into it. It's like Bones with secret agents. It's very generic and the cinematography isn't very cinematic.
