I am not to familiar with the original show but have always heard great things about it over the years. It was like a Drama or soap opera kind of thing with a Vampire right? Anyway I was looking forward to this but then saw the trailer and realized it is a comedy. Why the heck do they do this so much. Why not just make a straight film based on the show. I am sort of sick of all these old TV shows being made into goofy parody movies. This will be another I wait to rent for a buck.

I guess I would be. I don't really mind it for things like 21 Jump Street that, even as a child, seemed dumb in its original state. Dark Shadows bothers me more, but I really don't feel like this is a parody. There's comedy in it, to be sure, but it's not a parody.

The problem is Burton may have been a fan, but he was a fan when he was a kid. He probably hadn't watched ANY of the episodes since he had been a kid, and may have not bothered to watch any while making this. As such he's going on his childhood recollections of something he loved and things he probably wanted to do with the property.
