I like the reference to The Andromeda Strain. (using the name "Wildfire")
I was a little skeptical when at the end of ep. 5 and the doors opened, what all this was leading to or the direction things would take, and really didn't expect this to be wrapped up in one episode. So, the whole Desmond/Hatch fears were unwarranted.

The flashback to the hospital scene reveals Shane in a more favorable light, then he pulls what he did in his drunken advance on Lori.
The hospital scene was pretty disturbing in its depiction of military slaughtering staff and patients. Definitely plays on the fears of just what military could or would do in an extreme national emergency on home soil.
