The 2014 is just a ballpark estimate of when they'd LIKE to have it out... as the article points out, the film has been "pushed back indefinitely."

I honestly will be surprised if it happens. Platinum Dunes buys up properties and (thankfully) drops them all the time. (see: Rosemary's Baby, the Birds, Monster Squad). And it sounds like Paramount were really unhappy with the script. I wouldn't be surprised if Paramount goes to find another producer... doesn't sound like they were happy with PD's take on it.
