This week, I have been mostly watching The Two Doctors on DVD. The commentary with Colin Baker, Nicola Bryant, Frazer Hines, Jacqueline Pearce and Peter Moffatt is a joy to listen to, especially Jacqueline freaking out at Shockeye biting into the rat, and memories of Colin and Frazer tipping Patrick Troughton of the wheelchair in the story. Commentary highlights:

Colin Baker: "[Carmen Gomez, who played Anita] is a very striking lady, isn't she?"
Frazer Hines: "Yeah. She hit you a few times."

Colin Baker: "Cathy Davies was the make-up supervisor, and the first time I spoke with her, she rang me up and said..." (in a Welsh accent) "'Can I introduce myself? My name's Cathy Davies, I'm the Welsh tart that's doing your make-up'."

Colin Baker: "Oh, for those curls again. Entirely natural, you know."
Peter Moffatt: "You were a very pretty young man."
Colin Baker: "Oh, be quiet. Stop it."
Peter Moffatt: "Well, look, Nicola hasn't changed one iota, and you, well..."
Colin Baker: "Thank you (!)"
Nicola Bryant: "It's okay, I slipped Peter twenty quid for that!"

Frazer Hines: "I remember it was so hot, there was a dog chasing a cat and they were both walking!"

Colin Baker: "I have two strong memories of Pat. One is where I said to him once, 'I've never seen your name outside a theatre in the West End.' And he said, 'Oh, no, I don't do stage acting - all that shouting in the evening!'

(On his face materialising from the stars in the title sequence)
Colin Baker: "Terrible dandruff!"

I ordered The Dalek Invasion of Earth and the Lost in Time set the other day, they should arrive any time now. :)

Can't wait to finally see the only 2 surviving episodes that feature the Yeti (not counting The Five Doctors of course), they became one of my favourite monsters ever since I first saw pictures of them in old issues of DWM and other magazines when I was a kid but I've obviously never been able to see any of the actual episodes they were featured in until now (since I've also never seen the said Five Doctors before either :P ). That's going to be a real treat. :D

I'm also really looking forward to seeing the scant bits of surviving footage and clips from Fury From the Deep as well. It's a great pity that a serial with such a great reputation as this has doesn't even have a single surviving episode to its name since even that would be better than nothing. Oh well, perhaps one day we'll get lucky and one (or if we're very, very lucky, more than one) will turn up somewhere. You never know.

Oh yeah and finally seeing the adventure that gave us such iconic imagery as the Daleks trundling across Westminster Bridge with the Houses of Parliament in the background and that one Dalek rising up out of the Thames for the first time should be pretty cool too.

The next time I buy a Doctor Who DVD, I might get The Curse of Fenric. I've just been getting stories I've already seen (The Tomb of the Cybermen, Pyramids of Mars, Resurrection of the Daleks, The Caves of Androzani, The Two Doctors and Remembrance of the Daleks), so I might try out a "new" story.

Either that, or I'll get Revelation of the Daleks next month. Which I've already seen.

Oh, yeah, it's definitely got some funny moments. The commentary for The Caves of Androzani (dunno if you've seen that DVD) is funny too, with Peter Davison's idea of a fate worse than death and a story about Christopher Gable (Sharaz Jek) from the director Graeme Harper that might make you never see Jek in the same light again...

Watched some of the third disc of the Lost In Time set today. It's great but at the same time rather sad that you can't properly enjoy the majority of these serials what with them being presented in an incomplete form 'nd all.

The first (and only) episode of The Web of Fear has some great scenes in it (one of which, where a Yeti 'wakes up' you can see in the classic clips section of the BBC Who site) and the surviving clips from some of the rest of the episodes look so good that I'm sure I'd have it ranked as one of my favourites of the Troughton era if ever I was somehow able to see the whole thing in its entirity.

'Tis such a shame.

I have Ghost Light on DVD. Pretty good stuff, but it does take a few viewings to get the nuances of the story. Revelation of the Daleks is out on Monday, so I'm getting that.

Bon Apettite!

REVELATION is one of my all time favorites. It's a wonderfully sick and morbid black comedy. Also it apparently marks the REAL first time you see a Dalek hovering. However the effect (Involving one of those old SEVRAN's Dalek models, was done so badly it's near impossible to tell what you are seeing. I hear the restoration team had the shot actually redone (With models as before...not CGI) to clarify the matter for the DVD!
