Interstellar (2014)

So I just saw this in 70mm IMAX. HOLY MOLY was that an experience. I'm actually glad I saw it once prior to this as I was able to better fully appreciate the sensory overload without also trying to handle the mind bender for the first time.

If you can see this in 70mm you owe it to yourself to go before it's too late. This is the kind of theater experience that only comes around once every few decades.

As for the movie itself, I still love it.



It's kind of convoluted, but it's one possibility that, as far as I can tell after two viewings, works within the constraints of the film to solve the paradox.

I've LOVED this year for movies.

Half the complaints I've heard about this movie ("Christopher Nolan is a cold, sterile filmmaker and this movie has no emotion," for example) I find completely baseless and the other half ("The music is too loud!") didn't bother me.

The music thing was such a non-issue I'm actually stunned people are complaining about it. The sounds of an engine roaring and music playing were too loud to hear a countdown? Oh no! Say it ain't so! I couldn't hear the number 4!
I never once felt like I couldn't hear a bit of dialogue that mattered even slightly, and I thought it was used to effect of underscoring (overscoring?) the parts of the movie that were really loud.

Overall I really liked it a lot. It's the first time a movie from Nolan hasn't blown me completely away since I saw Insomnia, but I was pleasantly surprised it went to some of the places it did and I really liked it a lot.

Finally had a chance to see this movie. Interesting premise, with some interesting surprises, but rather long-winded. There were some good moments, actually some very good moments, but I thought they were far apart to sustain any kind of momentum on the narrative. TARS, I thought, was the most interesting character, while Anne Hathaway was the least. The sound issues that have been addressed, unfortunately, I also ran across. For me, I guess it would take a second viewing to fully comprehend everything, but not sure if at all I will see this thing again.

Anyway with that, I’m still trying to find that one movie that has somehow made this director John, Paul, George and Ringo all rolled into one (I can picture the opening of “A Hard Day’s Night” but instead of the Beatles, we see Nolan running for dear life and the fanboys are right behind!).

Just watched Interstellar yesterday, pretty good movie. Also, the movie's equation is basically the Dust Bowl + The Black Hole = Interstellar.

Which is interesting, because the first Christopher Nolan movie I saw was Batman Begins and it is far too much like The Shadow (1994) for the similarities to be mere coincidence; something my Dad (not a comic/pulp fan noticed quicker than I did). Recall also that about the unusual similarities brought up a few years ago between a Donald Duck comic published in 2002 UK/2004 US and Inception.

I saw Interstellar as more of a 2001 rip off than The Black Hole.
