I actually think Singer is kind of a bland choice. X1 and 2 haven't aged very well.

Yeah I'm with Alex. I think X1 has actually aged HORRIBLY, but I think X2 holds up very well.

I think Singer is a great choice because not only is he the one that successfully brought the characters to the screen to begin with (and kickstarted the superhero movie boom to begin with), but he's also the only one who really seems interested in putting any real subtext or substance into the series.

Look how uninspired, sloppy, generic and just plain BAD it got when he left and how good it got when he came back to produce/write First Class.

His guiding hand is what made First Class good and a return to form for the series, so having him direct is a no brainer to me and the best possible news to follow up Vaughn's exit.

Voice of reason Mouth. I think you're prob right. Been a while since I've seen X2...I remember last time I saw it being kind of ticked that it continued the legacy of screwing over Cyclops, and doesn't really set the X Men up to be a team like The Avengers, but the film itself is rather competent in most other regards.

Honestly, Avengers is the first "team" movie I've seen (as far as superheroes go anyway) that got the "team" part right.

First Class had some nice moments (as does X1), but they all failed at doing what Avengers did so well.

And yeah, Cyclops is def. cut short in X2, but there are so many great moments with Magneto, Nightcrawler, etc. that it didn't bother me.
