I knew we would from the getgo. I will say I was surprised at just HOW well it's been doing.

well, the screenplay was at least in part written by Suzanne Collins, the books' author. so she must have felt that the action was more important than the characterization and i honestly kind of agree with her. i didn't find too many characters in the books that i loved. just Haymitch.

the Rue thing I think was just more poor casting than anything else. i don't remember a physical description in the book, but Katniss was very adamant in the book that Rue reminded her of her sister, and the easiest way to do that would have been through appearance.

my biggest problem with the film remains the lack of werewolves. it wasn't a key portion to the book at all, but there was no reason for the change other than laziness on the filmmakers' parts.

DAT'S RACIST

I grabbed on to the little sister thing even in the film. That's such a common trope that it didn't have to be explicitly mentioned. I don't think casting had anything to do with it. I actually loved the girl who played Rue. What I disliked was that Rue only had like 3 minutes of screen time. We knew nothing about her as a film audience other than her abilities. All we see is Katniss being sad from losing a friend... a riot over her death... and her partner from District 11 getting revenge.

Unfortunately, Katniss isn't all that likable to begin with, so it doesn't even translate to empathy. We barely ever see her partner on screen other than that scene, so he only serves to kill off the hilarious over-the-top-villain knife chick. The riot is the best the movie can do to make us feel something... and it fails.

You wanna talk about racist? The black dude gets offed by a bunch of dogs of screen. My family laughed out loud.

They aren't supposed to be taken as literally the things wrong with the movie, they are just there for fun. I don't think they're actually trying to say the movie sucks or trying to make legit cases against them (at least not all the time). They are hit or miss though.

That being said,

Honest Trailers > Cinema Sins

Not to mention, Cinema Sins just ripped off this much better video from a couple years ago ()
