I thought the movie was plenty of fun... And it had plenty of humor appropriate to a western. I certainly laughed at the humor, & so did the rest of the audience in the theater I was in. & how can you possibly say this didn't deliver on the cowboy vs. alien action? It had lots of is & it was exciting, fun, and cool (at least IMO). This was a stock western movie with a crazy twist of having an alien invasion strike town... Which is exactly what I expected (and hoped for) it to be.

To me, this movie felt exactly like what I would expect if someone back in the 50's had said, "hey kids like westerns and they like all this ufo stuff... let's make a western, but put aliens in it!" and then proceeded to make a b movie from that idea, but with modern film & sfx technology. Which is just perfect. I still really like this movie, no matter how many flaws you guys bring up!!

The problem I had with the whole sunlight thing is I remember them distinctly saying that they avoided the day because "they don't see very well in the light." When the battle outside was going on, I did not see them having ANY difficulty seeing and running/fighting... not even showing any strain, like covering their eyes or wincing.

I'd call that a pretty stupid plot contrivance. Just take out that "they don't see well in the light" line and say that they prefer the dark. I'm not a very anal person, but that really REALLY stuck out to me. It was a major point made while they were tracking the alien through the desert in the second act. The third act just disregards it! That is poor screenwriting and it's no doubt because of how many hands were in it.

I finally was able to watch Cowboys VS Aliens this past week -- and on a whole I liked it, I'm surprised it didn't do better at the box office. When we first heard about the movie I was expecting a pulp fiction style movie, and the general concept does deliver on that but the movie itself seems contructed on the sci-fi action movie frame.

Some more direct conflict between the cowboys and aliens throughout the movie would have been nice, IE more gunfights. It's somewhere in the middle of the movie before we see the first alien outside of a machine, a gunfight in the beginning of the movie rather than the raid by the flyers would have had more impact I think.

Also, aliens that are supposed to be half blind in daylight seemed to have no trouble during the big fight at the end. It would have been better not to mention the the alien's eyesight, alternatively they could have just increased the number of aliens during the final fight and have the cowboys mowing through them.
